COUPLINGS Rods are available fitted with either universal or lockfast couplings. The two types do not join up to each other. 'Universal' The simple non-locking type of coupling which screws together. This type is quick to do up and undo, but must be rotated in a clockwise direction when in use. The thread is coarse and can cope with a certain amount of dirt. 'Lockfast' The couplings are joined by engaging a square peg in a slot, then rotating a loose nut to secure the joint. The advantage is that it is almost impossible for the couplings to come undone accidentally during use providing they have been done up properly. The disadvantage is that they are more difficult to do up and undo, due to the finer thread and the importance of lining up the two halves properly. This can be a particular problem when bending one rod whilst trying to connect another to it - for example in a chimney hearth. LENGTH AND DIAMETER OF RODS The traditional length is 3 feet. Longer lengths can be used, but you then lose the rigidity that a coupling at 3 foot intervals gives. The diameters are 3/4", 7/8", 1" and 1.1/8". The commonest size is 3/4". This is suitable for short runs in drains and for cleaning most chimneys. 7/8" may be used by a 'professional' drain cleaner. 1" and 1.1/8" are very rigid and are used for heavy work or specialized applications. However it is worth remembering that even the thickest sizes become very flexible on long runs. COLOUR AND MATERIALS Rods are made from polypropylene with metal couplings, and are available in black or blue. The blue rods are branded 'BAILEY', and are respected branded quality products. BLUE ROD® is a registered trade mark. TOOLS Universal tools will only attach to Universal rods, and Lockfast tools will only attach to Lockfast rods. The sizes 4" and 6" refer to the minimum size of drain the tool will pass through.

Flexi Nylon Trigger Lock Rod

Flexible nylon rod for use with the trigger lock brush range and the Universal or Lockfast tools with a suitable adaptor. Can be rotated in either direction and will bend through 180°. For hand use only.

Drain and Chimney Brushes
The size represents the approximate outside diameter of the brush. 4" and 6" sizes are generally considered drain or flue brushes, the larger sizes are suitable for flues and chimneys. The standard sizes for chimney is 16".
