The 1.1/8" rod is fitted with Lockfast couplings and are joined by engaging a square peg in a slot, then tightening a nut to secure. This means it's almost impossible for the couplings to come undone accidentally during use, providing they have been assembled correctly. The disadvantage is that they are more difficult to assemble due to the finer thread and the importance of lining up the two halves properly.

The traditional length is 3 feet, longer lengths can be used, but there may be a loss of rigidity that a coupling at 3 foot intervals gives.

Manufactured from black polypropylene with metal couplings.

These rods are very rigid and used for heavy work or specialised applications.
However it is worth remembering that even the thickest sizes become very flexible on long runs.
