BACK PANEL SEALANTS

It is important that an effective seal is maintained between the rear of the back panel and the wall plasterwork. This seal may be achieved by various products, as shown below : Ceramic fibre, fire surround sealing tape, Bostik sealant, fire cement.


Ceramic Fibre

25 mm ceramic fibre. British Gas plc installation instructions recommend that with a fire resistant fire surround in position, a gap of over 9 mm round the opening should be filled with 25 mm ceramic fibre.

Sealant Bostik

British Gas plc installation instructions recommend that with a fire-resistant fire surround in position, a gap of less than 9 mm around the opening should be filled with the sealant Bostik 1581. Bostik Bond-flex 100 HMA Silicone Sealant has replaced 1581. It is a single part, high-modulus, clear acetoxy-type silicone rubber sealant. Fire Surround Sealing Tape

HEAT PROOF SCREED

PURIMACHOS heat proof screed is a dry cement-like material which provides a protective rendering to materials used in fireplace construction such as brick, stone, breeze block and concrete, which can be damaged by heat. DRY POWDER - add water and mix before use. 20kg will cover approx. 0.45m² (4.8ft²) at 25mm (1") thickness with a bulk density of 18.4kg/m³ (115lb/ft³). Minimum recommended thickness 12.5mm. Tested to 1300 °C.

CLOSURE PLATE TAPES

Closure plate tape as specified in BS 5871 : Part 1 Specification for installation of gas fires, convector heaters, fire/back boilers and decorative fuel effect gas appliances: Part 1 Gas fires, convector heaters, fire/back boilers. (1st, 2nd, and 3rd family gases). Tape complies with the British Gas plc specification for sealing tape for gas fire closure plates, PRS 10 Issue 2.

DOUBLE SIDED FOAM TAPE FOR GAS FIRE FIXING

A white double sided foam pressure fixing tape with a high tack permanent acrylic adhesive. Used in gas fire fixing applications, for example attaching aluminium angle plates to the fireplace. This tape is not to British Gas plc specification PRS 10 which does not specifically cover double sided tapes. Service temperature: -20 °C to 75 °C.

BOILER CASING FOAM

FIRE FEET

34 mm (1.3/8") diameter black plastic feet to fit under the legs of gas fires. Supplied with a pad sticky on both sides to help prevent the fire moving.

ALUMINIUM ANGLE INFILLS

Used to fill in fireplace openings together with a closure plate. Made from thin aluminium, the angles can easily be cut and bent to shape. By cutting inverted Vs along one of the angles they can also be bent to form an arch, and so follow a curved fire opening. British Gas plc job instructions show these angles being used with double sided tape (P/N 6980 shown above) and closure plates. These infills may be used as shown in the illustration to provide the face for the closure plate. If the fireplace has no overhang a third infill may be used along the top.
