The right check valve for every job
With such a wide selection of check valves in different styles, you may wonder which is right for you. Traditionally, the valve you need will come under one of these three types:
Helping prevent simple aesthetic changes due to contamination (think taste or smell), single check valves are typically used internally in systems.
Best suited for preventing contamination, especially in systems where disinfectants are used or you rely on hot water, double check valves will be needed if you’re working with a Fluid Category 3 system.
Great when dealing with upward flows, a reliable swing check valve utilises the weight of the disc inside to block reverse flows.
Almost all check valves are made from brass, as it provides excellent corrosion resistance, although it is possible to get polyethylene check valves too.
Should I buy a single or double check valve?
For the likes of your washing machine or shower, a single check valve should do the job, as they simply rely on a one-way system to prevent water from re-entering a system. For something like your garden tap, a double check valve is ideal in the event of negative water pressure after use.
Are backflows and check valves the same?
While both have the same function, and some people use the terms interchangeably, there are some slight differences to be aware of. Check valves will check/block water coming back through with a hinge system. Backflows use pressure to prevent water returning.
